I am building a website that is very similar to Netflix.com. However, when it comes to the copyright materials (i.e. the videos that are posted) can i get sued if i posted a movie that was copyrighted by Hollywood? If so, how is it possible for netflix to post a video even though that video is a copyrighted material?

Netflix can show them because they have a license agreement with the owner of the copyright. You will have to do the same.
