my husband and I have an "informal marriage" in texas, which isn't recognized in Louisiana. I will have to move to Louisiana to be with my family because he is abusive; I won't be able to stay in Texas, because I have nowhere to stay here. I'm told that after 6 months I can file for divorce in Louisiana even though he's still in Texas. But if my marriage isn't legally recognized in Louisiana, how will that work?
