Question

We have property in Emporia, Virginia. Our renters say they have a notarized document saying that they are buying the house. Since December of 2011 we have asked for this document and either they don't have one or are not willing to let us see it. We know of no such document. What are our options? We would really like them to vacate the property.

Answer

What are your options in the situation described?

Assuming that these tenants are now on some kind of month to month

oral understanding for a lease at most, give them their full 30 days advance

notice (in writing ) to move and if they refuse or ignore it, start eviction

proceedings through the local general district court.
