Why is a hybird car good for the envierment?
The short answer is that they are not 'good' for the environment. There is the perception that they are good for the environment largely because they use less fuel and cause fewer direct emissions per km driven then vehicles with more conventional power plants (Gas/ diesel engines).
They are not 'Good' for the environment though, because compared to other forms of transport like walking cycling, skateboarding or public transport they use dramatically more resources and use much more energy.
Furthermore, some studies have suggested that the Toyota Prius (specifically although the argument likely holds true for others) is WORSE for the environment because it uses materials that are more difficult/ dirty in their extraction and because there is a lot more transportation involved during manufacturing. For instance the batteries' material is found in Canada, shipped to Japan (for manufacturing) then the car is moved again to get to its market where it will be sold.
Basically if you build it use it and then throw it away, even if much of the materials can be re-used, it taxes the environment and it's bad.
