Question

ALimony Agreement

I am a divorced father and have been paying ''child SUpport'' for two years.

I would like to get a tax write-off in exchange for paying a little more and calling it ''alimony''. My ex-wife agrees to this.

Is our ''agreement sufficent or do I need something or some form from the court to formalize it?

Answer

Re: ALimony Agreement

You should have a court order. A written agreement may not be sufficient to satisfy the IRS. Check with your tax preparer.
