Question

My step-father petitioned for me while i was 17 and now i'm 18, i currently have a conditional green card which will need to be renewed next year, my question is what form should i request to remove the condition? Can i fill out that form without the petitioner being present? Although i've got my conditional green card can he in any way prevent me from staying in this country?

Answer

You will need Form I-751 to remove the condition. The easiest way out to remove the condition is to file a joint petition with your step-father. This means that, you will need him to sign your application and also provide the necessary documentation to support your petition. Should you decide to do this application yourself, which is refered to as self-petition, you will need to speak to an immigration lawyer to help you because it is a complex procedure. Should you decide to talk to an immigration lawyer, you may email me at [email protected]/* */ . Good Luck.
