Question

I am buying a car from my cousin. I haven't paid him in full, I am giving him payments. The car is registered, titled, and insured in my name. The car has nothing to do with him now. I signed a paper saying that I would pay him this much on this date. He didn't give me a copy of the paper I signed, but the one that was signed was notorized. Is there anything I can do about it? My boyfriend lost his job and now I can't afford it. Isn't the car legally mine?

Answer

It depends on whether your cousin's name appears on the Title as a lienholder. If so, you cannot sell the car and he is entitled to repossess it. If not, then the car is yours, but he can still sue you for money damages in court.
