In Arizona when can you make a left turn on red?
You can make a left-turn into an intersection marked by a red light only from a one-way street onto a one-way street while staying close to the left-hand curb, after coming to a full stop before the interection and waiting until it is safe to proceed. It is just like a right turn.
Some people say you can make a U-turn if you do not enter the intersection, but that is not really turning on a red light. Red lights apply only to the intersection, not to the roadway between intersections. However, there may be another law that requires you to stop before the stop line of a crosswalk and remain stopped there until a signal indicates that you can proceed. I would say that when the signal turns green, it indicates that you can proceed into the intersection. But even when it is red, it is indicating that you may proceed to make a U-turn if you do not enter the intersection.
