What is the importance of understanding Newton's law of motion in ensuring safety on the road?

What is the importance of understanding Newton's law of motion in ensuring safety on the road?
1st law: an object in motion stays in motion, and an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by an outside force.
Your car will continue moving even after you take your foot off the gas because of inertia. You need to wait until the friction of the tires on the road slowly stops the car, or you have to press the breaks to stop the car safely.
When the car comes to sudden stop, you will keep moving forward unless acted upon by an outside force, such as a seatbelt or an airbag.

3rd law: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
This directly applies to car crashes. If your car crashes into a telephone pole, the telephone pole is also crashing against your car. Both the car and the telephone pole are exerting forces upon each other, so the car will probably be dented, as will the telephone pole.
