Question

Hello, I was 16 when i got a class C misdemeanor (theft) It was actually split into 3 class C

misdemeanor.....I paid a fine and was told that since under 17 (TEXAS) i will be an juvenile and my

records will not be made public....hence i can answer no in the crime part of the job applications

and such. Now i am graduating college ..got a well good job offer and my Green card is coming to an

end...so was going to apply for a citizenship. Now that i am applying for citizenship, I am

worried on how this will affect the outcome. It has been over 5 yrs since the incident and i have

stayed clear of dumb mistakes as in past and i think i have maybe 2 or 3 traffic speeding tickets

since then. Since i answer no when applying for jobs and all other documents official or unofficial.

What should my answer be for application to citizenship? Please provide me of your comments and

perhaps if i need to speak with a lawyer any recommendations? ...located in Houston!

Answer

USCIS will normally look to the 5 years preceding the filing of the N400 to determine if you have good moral character. In your case, the incident happened before the 5 years, so you should be good to go.

Best of luck.
