How do you control the fuel consumption in furnaces?
Lowering the thermostat will lower the consumption of fuel. There is an obvious drawback to this, so setting the thermostat is a compromise between warmer temperature and fuel consumption.
On most furnaces there is an adjustment for how much air is allowed to be burned with the fuel; however, this is usually adjusted by a technician. Adjusting the air mixture to optimum efficiency should be done at least every two years, or perhaps every year. And don't forget changing the filter(s) which far too many people neglect - this also increases fuel consumption when it is not done regularly.
