I received a summons and part of it says I am required to file a petition with the Court and serve a copy upon the plaintiffs attorney prior to the court hearing date or be present at court date. What does this mean?
Answer
It probably says to file an answer to the Petition. It means that you musy either file a written answer (and send copy to the plaintiff attorney) or appear at the Answer docket. Otherwise the Plaintiff may get a judgement by default against you. You may want to consult directly with a civil practice attorney in your area. They may be able to telll you what defenses you have.
Good luck.

You did not receive a summons saying that you are required to file a Petition. Maybe you should take a moment and read the summons and other papers you received more carefully. Then, you should contact an attorney in your area to set up a consultation for the attorney to review everything and provide you with the advice you need. Good luck!
