What is a smoke diagnostics pertaining to cars?
a 'smoke machine' at dealerships provides a one-pound per-square-inch pressure through a 'port' , port has a green screw-on cap, of pretend smoke
into the 'evap' system, which is for quelling evaporative 'fumes' of gasoline
in each 'modern' car. while this 1#p.s.i. of pretend-smoke is placed upon the
'entire' system one looks under the hood, and/or raises the car to inspect
allthe related hoses, clamped areas, containers, and switches w/hoses,
etc., looking for the culprit - cracked/leaky/loose, etc. where the pretend
smoke is emanating from, and replaces/repairs as needed. this also
includes gas cap, fill pipe, overflow/backflow of filler pipe, and their related
hoses and clamps/gaskets/damage from rocks, old age cracks whatever.
DO NOT EXCEED STATED PRESSURE! the test port is usually under the hood.
you may have to erase code /if set/ after repairs. it may take two or more
'drive-cycles' or several-days-of-use for it to kick-out another code if not
repaired properly, or if more than one problem existed/exists --
re-do smoke test after repair/s/.
